Baby Monitors are a great tool parents need to keep tabs on
their infants and a must have item to alert parents to any
problems their baby may be having. But how do you choose the
right baby monitor?
How many different kinds are there?
Which
brand names are better than others?
What features should I look
for when choosing a baby monitor?
In this article, I will help you answer those questions. When
they first started selling baby monitors, they were really just
small intercoms. You put them near your baby so you would know
when they woke up and started to cry. New technology and designs
have improved since then and increased the number of options you
have to choose from.
There are millions of baby monitors in use today to help
parents watch over their babies. Some features of the new
monitors include visual monitoring, sound sensors, and movement
sensors. Here are some of the monitors you might want to
consider when choosing one for your baby.
Receivers are one of the important features you need toconsider when choosing the type of baby monitor you want to buy.Do you want one or more receivers for different rooms of thehouse? Would you like a baby monitor that you can attach to yourclothing to carry around with you? How lightweight andtransportable is the receiver? Is the receiver going to bebattery operated or will they need an electrical outlet? Thoseare questions you want to ask yourself before making yourchoice.
Experts recommend the monitors that are battery operated andattach to your clothing with a belt clip. That way you are neverout of range and can hear if your baby needs you. The babymonitors that do run on batteries need to have an alarm thattell you when the batteries are low, otherwise you may hearnothing and think everything is ok, when it's just not workinganymore.
The range of the baby monitor's receiver is a very importantoption you need to take into account when purchasing one. Manyless expensive baby monitors have a range of only 100 feet, while some of the better baby monitors have a range of 400 feetor more. I would opt for the one with longer range, since youdon't know when you may need to go into the garage or yard to dosomething and you still want to be able to monitor what ishappening in your baby's room.
Baby Monitors also come with more than one channel. You canmonitor two rooms or more with the better ones. If your babymonitor is to have more than one channel, it should have an easyway to switch channels.
Volume control is essential. You need an easy way to controlthe volume of your baby's monitor for different situations. Manypeople ignore this feature when buying a baby monitor, then wishthey had it later when company arrives or other noise interfereswith you listening to your baby.
The mounts for the baby monitor are important as well. Surfacemounts, clips, or hangars? Those are just some of the optionsavailable to you. Decide which is better for you and add it tothe features you are looking for in a baby monitor.
The best advice I can give you is to plan what features youwant to have before you begin searching for a baby monitor, thenonly settle for a monitor that has all the features you wanted, regardless of price. This may be one of the most important itemsyou ever buy for your baby.
Try it out in the store if they will allow it. If not, makesure there is a good return policy if it does not perform theway you want it to. Make sure it has no static and the sound isof good quality. Don't settle for a second-rate product wheremonitoring your baby is concerned.

“ Baby Monitors Explained” Free toddlers activity & Parent Child Development for baby toddler Baby monitors are an essential part of baby gear. When you have the baby asleep in the crib, you don't have to keep constantly checking to make sure that he/she is all right when you have a baby monitor.
You have one part of the monitor in the nursery and the other in the same room of the house where you are. Every move and sound that the baby makes come through the speaker so it is almost like you are in the same room.
The transmitters in the monitors work best when they are within 10 feet of the baby. This is why you should have the monitor on a nightstand near the crib, but yet you don't need to have them so close that when the baby gets older, he/she can reach out and touch it. You can carry the receiver with you or leave it plugged in by your bed during the night. The basic models have a switch you use to turn them on and off and to adjust the volume. You can also use batteries when you want to take the receiver with you, rather than having to plug it into an outlet in each room.
Some of the monitors on the market have a light display that flashes to let you know when the baby is crying. You don't need to have the volume turned up if you use this feature, but it does mean that you have to keep looking at the monitor. Top of the line monitors have a camera (a video monitor) that you can attach to your VCR. This lets you watch the baby without actually being in the same room.
There are also disadvantages to using a baby monitor. If you have a cordless phone, the baby monitor can pick up the conversation so you need to be discreet. Even talking in the same room as the baby will transfer the sound of your voice to the receiver, so you can't complain about visitors that won't go home. In once case we had neighbors with the same monitor on the same frequency and we could hear their entire night-time routine if our monitor was on. You also have to make sure that you keep the monitors away from bathtubs and pools because they are electrical devices.
Overall a baby monitor is a very useful thing to have. They give you a sense of comfort and let you get on with your day while your child is sleeping. Never forget that a monitor can NEVER replace proper parental care. Never leave your baby unattended for long periods (even while sleeping chech on them from time to time).
