This is a great learning activity to start helping your toddler become familiar with numbers environmentally.
All children love the outdoors, that’s where the learning begins.
Go for a walk in your own back yard, or take a stroll to another local area collect lots of fantastic leaves, seeds, flowers, gumnuts, twigs, small pebbles, grass and other materials to make an environmental number chart with your children.
• Large sheet of thick cardboard
• Strong glue • Brush • Felt pens • Environmental martials
What To Do
Find some environmental items such as leaves, etc. Sit with your child help sort out all the wonderful things collected, sorting them into groups. You then draw up a numbers chart. Help your child glue the leaves etc, on the correct number of items beside each numeral.
This way your children will quickly learn to match the numeral with the number of objects. Display your child’s wonderful Environmental Number Chart, find a special spot in their bedroom and practice counting together before go to sleep each night.

What you Need

• Cardboard

• Materials to collect such as: Leaves of different shape colour and texture, grasses, flowers, pebbles, small twigs, bark and so on… What to do
After collecting varieties of natural materials put them on the table outside and see if your children can use them for making patterns.
For beginners, a simple pattern for your children to follow is: Leaf-flower-leaf-flower-leaf-flower and so on. Then ask your children to tell you what comes next.
Glue your children’s wonderful work on cardboard for them to keep or display it in their bedroom.
You will be surprised at how easy and quickly your children pick this great learning activity up, they love it!
