Kids Activities:
Not only do kids of all ages love to play games, games are a creative and inexpensive way to entertain children. With a little imagination you will soon have them making up their own games!
Whether you're looking for birthday party games or just something to keep the little ones busy for a little while, I think you'll find these games easy to learn and fun for all ages.
Teddy Bear Tea Party - Start the Tradition Now!
Children of all ages love stuffed teddy bears and for good reason! They're cuddly, warm, and cute and they don't make a mess on your living room floor before guests arrive! The joy a stuffed animal can bring to a child is a wonderful and amazing thing and I believe every child should have at least one favorite bear in her lifetime.
Now, combine this great love of all things fluffy with a little girl's tea party and you have the makings of the grandest event of the year for your daughter. The Teddy Bear Tea Party!
There are several ways you can create this memory-filled event for your little one. Obviously the two main elements must be accounted for... the tea and the teddy bears. So let's look at both in just a little more detail.
1. The tea. Assuming you're planning your party for the younger of the young ladies, you'll want to keep the tea simple and SWEET! Not too much scrimping on the sugar here, mom...this is the event of the year remember? Choose a tea with some added flavor. Blackberry, apple or vanilla are a few of our favorites. You can go with the varieties from the tea aisle in the grocery store or find some fine lovely teas at various upscale tea shops or even online. Don't make the tea too strong and remember to have plenty of sugar (get the cubes...little girls LOVE the cubes) and cream for those who have not yet acquired the taste for afternoon tea yet. More sugar is required in the form of cookies, little chocolates and other tea fancies to complete the tea table. Remember mom; all the little ones will probably have a good toothbrush at home anyway!
2. The Teddy Bears. As you know, not all children choose a bear as their favorite stuffed animal so you might want to offer some flexibility here! The most economical way to include the animals is to ask each child to bring their own favorite teddy or other animal along for the event. Providing a simple craft for the girls to make a teddy tea shawl (an inexpensive cloth napkin and some fabric makers or rubber stamps will do nicely) will help to make the stuffed animals more at ease at the tea table. Or, if you want to get even more elaborate, have a make your own stuffed animal event as part of your party, where each guests can build a bear or other stuffed animal to take home.
Keep the entire party short and simple for maximum memory making and remember your camera and film. You'll want to take plenty of pictures of the little ones, pinkies high sipping their tea while enjoying their tea dainties. Finally, remember to take a photo of each guest with the guest of honor and their bears. Include the picture with your thank you notes so each will have a grand remembrance of the day as well.
Teddy Bear tea parties don't need to be just for birthday parties either. Make this an annual event for your girls. Celebrate the start of the school year or celebrate the first day of spring. I bet you'll find that the tradition you start when your girls are young will continue on into their teen years and beyond... and each year you can guarantee the teddy bears will come along too. One is never too old to love a stuffed teddy bear! At the end of each year's celebration, create a special page for a scrapbook so your girls will have something wonderful to pass on to their daughters along with the annual tradition!
Annette Yen and her two beautiful daughters love tea and adore stuffed animals. You can learn more about their stuffed animal parties and sign up for their free birthday club by visiting their website at http://www.FunOnTheArk.com

Easy Kids Recipe:
Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries At Home
It isn't hard to tell when spring has arrived officially. I
agree that the signs aren't always clear when you look at the
weather, but they are clear when you look at the produce
section of your grocery store. For example, strawberries are
always in abundant in the spring. You will find many grocery
stores offering them at very affordable prices during this
season.
Many of us get excited about the abundant number of red berries
but not excited enough about eating only strawberries all week.
You will find many irresistible buy-one-get-one-free offers.
With such offers you might end up having more than enough
berries to consume. If you don't know what to do with all these
berries you can use them to make Chocolate covered strawberries.
Sounds exciting? I bet.
Recently I saw an ad for chocolate covered strawberries from a
local chocolate factory. But when I saw the price offered for
it at reputable store, I was shocked. What I then did was to
engage in price comparison. This made me to discover, to my
greatest amazement, that average cost of chocolate covered
strawberries is expensive. I then decided to find out how to
save money and still get what I want.
I don't know why, but the expense of the treat made it much
more appealing. Of course, this isn't to imply that I want to
get into a chocolate covered strawberries buying frenzy. It
simply means I want to find out if there was a way I could make
them myself. If I succeeded I could then put the produce sales
to good use.
My thought previously was that I would need expensive cocoa
blocks for melting and dipping. But thankfully, I discovered
that the best way for melting Chocolate is via old-fashioned
chips which can be bought right from your local grocery store.
Of course this was really great news for me as I hate going to
and fro looking for what I want, even though I have no problem
going for chocolate covered strawberries that are not too
expensive.
Another news I came across is the fact that I can use my
microwave for this purpose. You see, in theory, making
chocolate covered strawberries is easy. You should follow the
necessary instructions carefully. By following the instructions
carefully you will not scorch the chocolate.
For starters, fade the chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Don't
forget the importance of using the defrost setting. Also,
remember that when you dip your chocolate covered strawberries
on high, it will scorch it. What to do? Wait until the dip is
quite smooth. This can take two to three minutes.
Do you know the specific technique that people use to dip
chocolate covered strawberries? Simply dip the berries into the
mixture, and then shake the excess away as you withdraw it.
Lastly, you can then give the chocolate covered strawberries a
few whirls in clockwise direction, and then set it on wax
paper. After this you are set to start enjoying the labor of
your hard work!

Toddler Craft Ideas
What toddler doesn't like to get their hands right into stuff, including paint? And they enjoy it even more when Mom and Dad join them!
For family fun, or just a couple of budding Da Vincis, make sure your floor is protected first with a painter's drop cloth, or just an inexpensive (and wipe-able) vinyl tablecloth from a dollar store.
Make sure that you purchase tempera paints or mixable powdered paint that is non-toxic, non-permanent and meant for children's crafts.
While older children may have the discipline to select and share different colors, for the youngest toddlers, working with one color is often sufficient to have fun with the activity.
Bring out your paint in a container with a lid that is secure, in case someone's enthusiasm knocks it over, and a bucket of warm water for washing hands. An old towel nearby, never hurts either.
Purchase large rolls of brown paper or blank newsprint. It's inexpensive, and you can cut the size of pieces that you want. Lay your paper on the floor covering (you can even tape it down and remove the tape later), and set out one container of the paint. Now, the fun begins.
Show the toddler how to paint the palm of his hand, and make flowers with their handprints. If you're brave enough, paint their feet, and let them add footprints to the picture. They'll love the experience of feeling the textures of paper, paint and brush on the soles of their feet.
Pour a small puddle of paint in the center of the paper, and allow them to run a favorite truck or car through it and all over the paper.
Bring out a selection of "stamps" that they can dip into the paint and press to the paper to make different images and textures, including half a potato carved with a design, a damp sponge, a piece of woven fabric, or even the rim of a plastic cup.
Paint is a medium that will constantly produce something new and exciting, and your toddler will be fascinated to see what comes of each new experiment
Positive Parenting Resources:
Stimulating, Nurturing and Communicating With Your Child
To help your baby develop a good attitude about him or herself, and to discover that life is exciting and wonderful, two things are most important: talking and touching. All children are born with the capacity to understand words and to learn to talk. Children start to communicate their needs from the moment they are born. When your baby hears your voice, he will stop what he is doing and listen.
At about four months old, your baby will respond with noises when someone is talking to him. The first sounds your baby makes sound like e’s and eh’s and a’s. These are called “discomfort sounds” of crying. A cry will sound like e, eh, and a. Your baby also communicates with gestures, facial expressions, and body movements.
Very soon after birth, a baby will also learn the sounds of ah, oh, and oo. These are called “comfort sounds” and you can usually hear them when your baby is content. Paying attention to these different sounds helps to establish a way your baby can talk to you. Every baby understands that when he makes these sounds, his mother or father will respond by doing something. At about six months of age, these sounds will show up in combination. This is the point when your baby will start to babble.
When your child starts “baby talk,” your response should be smiles and praises. Imitate that sound back to your child. When you imitate these sounds, he’ll probably say them right back to you. Hug your child and tell him how pleased you are that he is talking. How much and in what way our child will talk depends, to a great extent, on you.
A child hears his first words from his parents and for the first few years most of the speech they continue to hear is from you. If a lot of talking goes on in the home, particularly directed to them, they will assume speech is important. They will work harder at speaking and will talk sooner and more.
Language develops by speaking with your child as much as possible. Whenever you’re feeding, changing, bathing, and walking your child, talk to him. When you talk to your children, they are learning to put words to certain actions and objects. This helps your child express his needs in words. In order for you to share more complicated thoughts and ideas, your child must begin to develop language, speech at first and then writing. Just a few simple sounds during the first year of life will lead to the use of thousands of words by the time your child is a teenager.
Another wonderful way to stimulate language development is by reading to your child daily. You can read during the day or before bedtime. Hearing your voice communicates love and security to your child. Many parents tell me that their child let’s them know they want to be read to when they being a book out of their book basket or shelf and hand it to their parent’s to read to them.
Children’s feelings are a good way to stimulate and nurture your child. Use words to describe how you think your child is feeling: “Jane looks very unhappy right now,” or “Tim is feeling happy.” Putting words to feelings will help your child express how they feel. This is a lifelong skill that will benefit your child’s self-esteem and thoughts of himself. With the ability to use words, phrases and sentences, your child gains mastery of his environment by expressing his needs and understanding the needs of others.
Your child is a natural born explorer. There are many ways to help your child develop a sense of touch and stimulation, which helps in his overall development. Every child likes to touch, taste, grab, twist, bite, and pull on anything within their reach. Giving your child safe things to play with and touch helps their eye-hand coordination and sense of exploration. Here are some ways to help stimulate your child’s development:
• Give your child things of different colors and sizes.
• Dance and sing with your child in your arms.
• Stimulate your child’s body by a daily full body massage.
• Children love when you play with their hands and feet and tickle them gently.
• Stimulate your child with gentle rocking and singing songs.
• Give your child safe things to touch: objects that are soft, fuzzy, sticky, hard, squishy, etc.
• Show your child his and your face in a large mirror.
Stimulating, nurturing and communicating with your child from the day of his birth creates a conscious effort on your part to encourage your child to find life exciting and wonderful. Your child’s physical, intellectual, language and social and emotional development depends upon your interactions with your child. You are the person your child most imitates throughout his lifetime. So give your child the best start in life by providing a loving, stimulating and caring environment that sends the message, “I love you and want the best for you.”

Editor’s notes & humour:
Charitable Lawyers
A local United Way office realized that it had never
received a donation from the town's most successful
lawyer.
The person in charge of contributions called him
to persuade him to contribute. "Our research shows that
out of a yearly income of at least $500,000, you give not
a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give back to the
community in some way?"
The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied,
"First, did your research also show that my mother is
dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that
are several times her annual income?"
Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, "Um...no."
"--or that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and
confined to a wheelchair?"
The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an
apology but was interrupted, "--or that my sister's
husband died in a traffic accident," the lawyer's voice
rising in indignation, "leaving her penniless with three
children?!"
The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said
simply, "I had no idea..."
On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again: "--so if I
don't give any money to them, why should I give any to
you?"
