CASUAL FRIDAYS

Memo No. 1: Effective immediately, the company is adopting Fridays as Casual Day so that employees may express their diversity.

Memo No. 2: Spandex and leather micro-miniskirts are not appropriate attire for Casual Day. Neither are string ties, rodeo belt buckles or moccasins.

Memo No. 3: Casual Day refers to dress only, not attitude. When planning Friday's wardrobe, remember image is a key to our success.

Memo No. 4: A seminar on how to dress for Casual Day will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the cafeteria. Fashion show to follow. Attendance is mandatory.

Memo No. 5: As an outgrowth of Friday's seminar, the Committee On Committee's has appointed a 14-member Casual Day Task Force to prepare guidelines for proper dress.

Memo No. 6: The Casual Day Task Force has completed a 30-page manual. A copy of "Relaxing Dress Without Relaxing Company Standards" has been mailed to each employee. Please review the chapter "You Are What You Wear" and consult the "home casual" versus "business casual" checklist before leaving for work each Friday. If you have doubts about the appropriateness of an item of clothing, contact your CDTF representative before 7 a.m. on Friday.

Memo No. 7: Because of lack of participation, Casual Day has been discontinued, effective immediately.

Colourful Icebergs

Your toddler will enjoy this activity with great delight and amazement. Plus great fun on a hot day. Your children will be totally fascinated with the changing colours.

Materials

• Large container to hold the water play (Toddlers wading pool is ideal)
• Different shaped balloons
• Verity Food dye colours
• Eye droppers

Instructions

Once you have your different shaped balloons. Add the water to each balloon, leave in the freezer for a couple of days or until frozen.

Then once your different shaped icebergs are frozen solid, cut the balloon from the iceberg, leaving you with your own unique frozen shape.

Have your large container ready for this activity, placing the icebergs in the wading pool, large bucket or baby bath. Use a verity of coloured food dye, your children will enjoy watching their icebergs change colour when the dye from the eye dropper is added.

For another frozen water activity, you can fill smaller plastic containers with coloured water for a different experience.

My grandchildren enjoy this colourful iceberg activity, its one of their favourite.

Easy Kids Recipe:

Pancakes

Pancakes from Scratch

Ingredients
• 1 cup all-purpose flour (white, whole grain or 1:1 mix of white and whole grain)
• 1½ teaspoon baking powder
• 1 pinch salt
• 1 cup milk (substitute buttermilk or 1:1 mix of milk and buttermilk)
• 3 eggs, separated
Procedure
1. In large bowl, mix dry ingredients together until well-blended.
2. Add milk and mix well until smooth.
3. Separate eggs, placing the whites in a medium bowl and the yolks in the batter. Mix well.
4. Beat whites until stiff and then fold into batter gently (skip this step for heavier pancakes or if 1 cup buttermilk is substituted for milk).
5. Pour ladlefulls of the mixture into a non-stick pan, one at a time.
6. Cook until the edges are dry and bubbles appear on surface. Turn; cook until golden. Serves 12 to 14 pancakes.

Notes, tips, and variations
1. Serve with butter, maple syrup, fruit, jam or cheese.
2. Pancakes do not store well.
3. Use buttermilk instead of milk, or wholegrain flours instead of white. This will change the consistency of the final product (i.e. whole grain flours generally lead to a denser heavier pancake, so try mixing white and wheat in various proportions as suggested above to get the feel you want).
4. Add sliced fruit such as banana and apple, or broken crispy bacon to the batter after pouring into the skillet and before flipping.

Tracing Favourite Toy

What you need:

• Favorite toys, Teddy, Cars, Motorbikes, Dolls

• Drawing paper

• Markers, Pencils or paints

• Scissors

• Glue

• Scrap book

Making a Start

Have your children pick the toy they want to trace. Set up a good level area, lay paper flat, put the toy on the paper. Show your child how to trace along the out side of their toy with a marker. You may want to hold the toy steady while your child traces the toy.

Paint or color in the toy tracing. When painting is dry add glue and paste into your child’s own scrap book. They will be surprised at their own skill as they improve. Put the date and your child’s age on the page, they can then see how they have improved.

A Parenting Tip - The Most Important Thing A Parent Can Do

The most important parenting tip won't drain your wallet, but it is costly.

It doesn't require years of parenting education, instead it's actually quite instinctive.

The most important parenting tip is simple yet profound. You can start using it today and expect almost immediate results.

After over two decades of parenting experience, I can tell you the most important parenting tip I have discovered is simply 'being there'. 'Being there' has become my most fundamental parenting concept.

- Be there...when they're just babies and need to be cuddled for the hundredth time in a day.

- Be there...then they're toddlers and need one more book read to them, calmly, so they can settle down in bed.

- Be there...when they're preschoolers and they fall down the slide on the playground.

- Be there...when they're in elementary school and their three best friends desert them all at once.

- Be there...when they're in middle school and damage something they can't fix on their own.

- Be there...when they're teenagers and need to talk at 10 pm three nights a week.

- Be there...when they're college-aged and sometimes just need to hear mom or dad's voice because nothing's going as planned.

Just be there.

Be there physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, spiritually, and relationally.

Be there because it works.

A word of caution about this parenting tip. Your kids can tell when you're 'being there' with them or when your attention is wandering. If you need to be doing something else, then tell them and go do it. But when you are with them, be with them. The child that feels he or she is special enough to be important to at least one other human being is the child that grows up well-grounded and secure in a stable environment. (If you would like more parenting tips based on 'being there', see the resource box following this article.)

Being there is a costly strategy in a distracted world. Your kids know you and your time is valuable and it speaks volumes to them when they see you putting your own needs aside and giving them your time and self instead.

And, please, I'm not speaking about spoiling your child. Not about giving into their every demand for attention, money or time. Not at all.

I'm speaking of shouldering your responsibilities as a parent. Even when it's inconvenient. Even when you're tired. Especially when it means sacrifice.

I'm talking about doing the right thing.

That's another way to understand the most important parenting tip of all.

Two Red Indians and an Irishman

Two Red Indians and an Irishman were walking through the woods.

All of a sudden one of the Red Indians ran up a hill to the mouth of a small cave. 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' he called into the cave and listened closely until he heard an answering, 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Woooooo!

He then tore off his clothes and ran into the cave. The Irishman was puzzled and asked the remaining Indian what it was all about,. 'Was the other Indian crazy or what?'

The Indian replied 'No, It is our custom during mating season when Indian men see cave, they holler 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' into the opening. If they get an answer back, it means there's a beautiful squaw in there waiting for us.

Just then they came upon another cave. The second Indian ran up to the cave, stopped, and hollered, 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' Immediately, there was the answer. 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!' from deep inside.

He also tore off his clothes and ran into the opening.

The Irishman wandered around in the woods alone for a while, and then spied a third large cave. As he looked in amazement at the size of the huge opening, he was thinking, 'Hoo, man! Look at the size of this cave! It is bigger than those the Indians found.

There must be some really big, fine women in this cave!' He stood in front of the opening and hollered with all his might 'Wooooo! Wooooo! Wooooo!'

Like the others, he then heard an answering call, 'WOOOOOOOOO, WOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOO!' With a gleam in his eye and a smile on his face, he raced into the cave, tearing off his clothes as he ran.

The following day, the headline of the local newspaper read...............
