Kids Activities:
Not only do kids of all ages love to play games, games are a creative and inexpensive way to entertain children. With a little imagination you will soon have them making up their own games! Gardening for Children
Starting a small garden with your child or grandchild is an excellent
way for children to learn to learn how to care for the environment
and gain an appreciation for the many birds and insects with whom we
share our gardens.
Tending a garden also serves as an introduction to
the changing weather patterns and the seasonal cycles of nature from
planting the seed, harvesting (e.g. eating the vegetables, picking
and drying the flowers or collecting the seed) and then preparing for
the next season. They also learn an important life lesson in
responsibility. If they don't water and nourish the plants they can
die through lack of attention.
If you can, With your child decide what kind of garden your child
would like - butterfly, herb, flower, vegetable etc. To make the
project more fun and real buy child sized gloves, planting tools,
wheelbarrow and watering can.
Sketch a plan for the garden and mark off the area in the garden.
Maybe a flower garden around a playhouse or a small vegetable patch
they can call their own.
Turn the soil breaking up any lumps and condition with organic
compost if necessary.
If you don't have a suitable area of ground use container pots,
planter boxes, or even an old half wine barrel will do.
Children can get interested in gardening from a very young age and
with a little encouragement discover this fun hobby. With very young
children it is easier to grow flowers directly from seed. The roots
on seedlings easily become damaged as they take them from the pots
and transplant into the soil.
Let children choose their own plants and look for easy germinating
types such as Cosmos, Snapdragons or the all time favourite
Sunflowers. Bulbs are also a great favourite amongst young children
but they can be typically impatient waiting for the bulbs to sprout
and grow.
For vegetables - carrots, peas and strawberries tend to be a
favourite as they are easy to grow and great to eat. One study found
that when four-and five-year-olds spent about 30 minutes a week for
eight weeks tending a garden, they were more likely to eat their
vegetables. A challenge for most parents.
Create a garden journal and take photos as the project progresses so
your child will have something to remember over the winter months
until the next season begins About the Author:

Child Arts & Crafts Activities:
Easy Kids Crafts For Halloween Are your kids excited about Halloween yet? We don’t have a day go by where my daughter doesn’t ask me if it’s time to go trick-or-treating yet. Keep them busy while they wait with these easy kids craft ideas you can do together. Ghost Hand Puppet
Kids love playing with puppets and there’s hardly an easier puppet to make than a ghost. All you need is a white paper towel, or a white handkerchief, a rubber band and a black marker. Ask your child to spread out her thumb and pinky, but keep the 3 other fingers together. Drape the paper towel over her hand and secure the rubber band around the three fingers. This will be the ghost’s head; the thumb and pinkie form the arms. Draw eyes and a mouth on the paper towel and the little ghost puppet is finished. Ghost Lollipops
Dress up the lollipops you are giving away for Halloween by wrapping a white tissue or small piece of fabric over them. Secure it with a piece of string or a rubber band. Take a black marker and draw eyes and a round mouth on the ghost’s face. Spider Webs
What would Halloween be without spiders and spider webs? Make these cute little spider webs with the kids and hang them in the window. All you need are 3 craft or clean popsicle sticks and some white or black yarn. Take two of the craft sticks and glue them together to form a cross. Glue the 3rd one right in the middle, forming a star shape. Tie one end of the yarn around one of the craft sticks in the center. Start weaving it over one craft stick and under the other. Keep going around, forming your spider web. Make sure you leave at least 1/4th inch of the craft sticks sticking out and secure the loose end by tying it to one of the craft sticks. Glue a small plastic spider in the center and hang your spider web up. Witch Broom Pencil
Witch broom pencils make a cute Halloween gift that doesn’t involve candy. You can turn any pencil into a witch’s broom with a handful of household items. All you need is a regular pencil, some small twigs out of the yard, some string and a little glue. Break the twigs into equal lengths pieces and line them up around the unsharpened end of a pencil. Make it look like an old fashioned broom. Secure the wigs with string, and then apply a thick layer of glue to keep it all in place. Cauldron Candy Dish
To make this cute cauldron candy dish, start with an empty round plastic container (like a cool-whip container). Clean it, dry it, and then paint it black. Paint three small wooden balls black as well. After the paint is dry, glue them to the bottom of your plastic container. Add a handle made out of wire if you’d like and your candy dish cauldron is done. Just add some of your favorite Halloween candy. Pumpkin Painting
Carving funny or scary faces into a pumpkin is a lot of fun, but it also gets quite messy and small kids can’t really do much since there’s a knife involved. Buy a few small pumpkins instead, or in addition to the big carving pumpkin. Use permanent pens or acrylic paint to draw funny faces on your mini-pumpkins. Positive Parenting Resources:
Simple Rules for Raising Successful Children
Successful parenting means taking the time to understand what our children need to be fulfilled, confident, and happy. Of course, that's no small task. Here are 14 guiding principles: 1. First and foremost, recognize the true gravity of your task. Parenting successful, emotionally happy children involves a great deal of important, mindful work - and huge, sweeping swaths of time. The first step is to accept that fact- and to embrace the role of parent as one of the most important roles anyone has ever taken on. 2. Have a ball. Just because our task is immensely important.that doesn't mean it can't also be great, great fun. Life with a family is a magnificent adventure- not simply a hassle filled with laundry and dishes. Remind yourself of this as often as necessary. And when the daily work of parenting starts to feel like drudgery, it's time to devote a day (or, at the very least, an afternoon) for intense family fun. Get some tickets to a ballgame and relax. 3. Spend a lot of time with your children. When you do so, children recognize that they are worth lavishing with time, praise, and attention. 4. Exhibit healthy, successful habits. If you want your kids to be healthy, fit, kind and compassionate, you'll need to live that way, too. Treat your mind, body, and soul with the utmost respect. Model caring, kindness, and compassion by working together (as a family) on a volunteer project a few hours a month. 5. Listen well. Strive to be honest, open, and attentive with your spouse and kids. When your children are speaking, get down on their level, ask questions, and really listen to their point of view. True listening does wonders for your children's self esteem, and it helps them to grow into good listeners themselves. Minimize social contact with adults who are continually "shushing" the children. 6. Show your children that you are genuinely interested in them. Make sure to let them know - through your words and behavior - that you care about what they like to do, even if that's altogether different from what the rest of the family enjoys. Get involved in activities that interest your child. Whatever it is, learn the lingo and sit down to learn from your child.. 7. Try not to criticize, but work with your child on mistakes in a respectful way. Never criticize in front of other adults or children, including siblings. Work to understand their unique point of view. Taking the time to do so sends a message that you accept and trust their decisions and that their opinions are valuable and important. 8. Don't label your kids - even when those labels sound harmless. Try not to tell your children that they are shy or overly dramatic or too sensitive. Respect the person whom they are and the adult they are becoming, while respecting all the stages they will grow through to get there. 9. Choose your battles very carefully, and allow natural consequences to teach the lessons themselves whenever possible. 10. Be accepting of your children's friends. Encourage your children to invite their friends over. 11. Be enthusiastic. Make sure your face lights up when your children come near you. 12. Share family stories, whether through a family journal, a scrapbook, or by simply telling one another over and over again about the memories that you treasure. Read aloud at all ages and stages. Cuddle up under a blanket in the evenings to read silently, each with a different book. Ask your kids to make up stories and tell them aloud - or create illustrated books to share. 13. Treasure all the generations. Revere the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. Show your children that family is something they can count on for their entire lives. All this can be distilled into one simple rule: Never let the big picture fade from view. In other words, make sure you have identified your true goal as a parent and live from that frame of mind. For example: My only goal as a parent is to raise happy, kind children who trust themselves and who enjoy peace of mind.
If, this week, they decide to eat Top Ramen every night for dinner and sometimes forget to put their shoes in the closet, so be it. Enjoy the joyful journey of this tremendous task of parenting. Lucky Fellow A guy named Joe finds himself in dire circumstances. His business
has gone bust and he's in serious financial trouble. He's so
desperate that he decides to ask God for help. He begins to
pray... "God, please help me. I've lost my business and if I don't get
some money, I'm going to lose my house as well. Please let me win
the lotto." Lotto night comes and somebody else wins it. Joe again prays... "God, please let me win the lotto! I've lost my business, my
house and I'm going to lose my car as well". Lotto night comes and Joe still has no luck. Once again, he prays... "My God, why have you forsaken me?? I've lost my business, my
house, and my car. My wife and children are starving. I don't
often ask you for help and I have always been a good servant to
you. PLEASE just let me win the lotto this one time so I can get
my life back in order." Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light as the heavens open
and Joe is confronted by the voice of God Himself: "Joe, meet me halfway on this..... Buy a ticket." Well, this has got to be the simplest, and most effective, formula for
personal goal setting success ever.

Only in America......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage. 7. Only in America......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place. 8. Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight. 9. Only in America......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'. 10. Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.
