Preschoolers have lots of energy and physical play that
involves movement is a vital part of their day. All children
learn and develop through exploration and discovery.
For
preschoolers, this exploration typically involves running,
jumping, throwing, or some other type of movement. It is
recommended that preschool and elementary age children
participate in 90 minutes of physical activity each day.
Playing outside is the best way to ensure your child moves
enough, but what do you do when it's too cold or on a rainy
day?
There are a number of fun activities you can initiate
with your preschooler indoors that will still promote movement
and can enhance learning as well.
Have a campout in the living room. Drape blankets over tables
or chairs, or pitch a play tent like the Galt Teepee. A
fireplace makes an excellent campfire, or substitute by sitting
a lamp in the floor. Tell spooky stories, "toast" marshmallows
in the oven and make s'mores, and play an indoor game of
horseshoes by tossing beanbags at a paper horseshoe pit.
Indoor obstacle courses are also a lot of fun on a rainy day. Set up an obstacle course in your living room or basement foryour preschooler to maneuver through. You may want to set up arow of chairs to crawl through, a small table to crawl under, and a stack of clothes or stuffed animals to go over.
Place several toys in a zig-zag pattern for your child to move aroundand a box he must throw a ball into. Be creative and use avariety of household objects to make the course. Encourageyour preschooler to walk through the course, then to crawl, andthen maybe to move backwards through it. Have fun and help yourchild experiment with different ways to move his body.
Put on a play with your preschooler. Choose a favorite storyor make up a story of your own together. Choose music for yourproduction and go through old clothes to make costumes. Storiesthat involve animals are a lot of fun. Each of you can pretendto be one of the characters and act out the events in thestory. Encourage lots of movement throughout your play andconsider recording it after a couple practice runs if yourchild is still interested.
Throw a dance party. Children love music and participating inmusical activities has been proven to enhance learning in youngchildren. Bring out the instruments or create your own withsanded wood blocks, pots and spoons, or film canisters filledwith rice. Dance around, wiggle, and jump while you and yourpreschooler play along. Dance to a variety of music, experimenting with many different rhythm patterns and tempos.
Set up an indoor "sand" box for hours of preschooler fun and toenhance fine motor development. Fill a large plastic bin with avariety of shaped pasta, dry beans, or rice. Rice is themessiest material to choose, but a large sheet beneath thecontainer shoud contain most of the mess. Provide cups, scoops, and other sand and water toys and allow your child toexplore the various ways he can fill and pour the materials.

Not all kids find thissituation promising, especially the little ones who arediscovering the big wide world in the front yard. Make it up tothem by improvising games and giving them a children's indoorplayground. You won't regret spending some money for theirindoor entertainment, here's why.
Rainy Day Dialogues
Dialogue 1:
"Mommy may we go out and play?" "No dearies, it's raining. Better go up to your room and watchTV. I have some stuff to go over, but I'll pop in later." "But we want to play!" "Oh dear."
Dialogue 2:
"Mommy may we go out and play?" "No dearies, it's going to rain. Dad just set up the children'sindoor playground, now scoot..." "Mommy, can we call Shane, Liz, Jan, and George to come over?" "Oh dear..."
The dialogues sound familiar? It's those rainy day dialoguesbetween parents and their children. When kids can't go out andplay because of freezing rain, parents have to put up withtantrums. Investing in a children's indoor playground will go along way - rain or shine. The little ones will be happiest whenthey investigate every nook and cranny of the indoor treehouse-styled loft with their friends.
This Christmas, this is the best gift you can give your kidsand yourself. For the kids, the children's indoor playground istheir fantasy come true; for you, this spells less arguments andhaving to deal with tantrums.
Why Children Need to Play and With Other Children
Play shapes the child's emotional and social skills, as well asprovides them outlets to unleash their imagination. Duringactive play, children can expel all their playful energy andexercise those young limbs. They are only children once andshould have all the time to enjoy the experience. They shouldnot be hurried up to behave and think like adults if you wantyour children to be well-balanced creative individuals.
The children's indoor playground is an alternative to outdoorfun when it's pouring sleet and rain outside. They can climb, swing, chat, and have hours of fun. Play allows children to makediscoveries for themselves. This is a positive way for them todevelop their deductive abilities. If you compare your childhoodadventures and play with that of your children, you will beaghast to learn that today's plays require children to learnsomething. This robs them of the spontaneity of self-discoveryand creativity that goes with unstructured play.
It is about time to let children play like children. Achildren's indoor playground is just the right set up and theywill not be robbed of a day's play in their young lives. You canhave several choices that both girls and boys will enjoy -climbing up little lofts, see-saw, and a pirate ship that sendtheir imaginations reeling.
If you have already given your kids this adorable children'sindoor playground, wouldn't it be nice to donate one to theorphanage this Christmas and spread cheer for the little tykeswho have nothing to do when it is freezing outdoors? You cancall on your friends and the neighborhood to add to the kitty.
With children's indoor playground installed in your home orinside the orphanage, never mind if the weather outside is foul. The kids will have a whale of fun everyday - rain or shine.
