The reality is being a single mom or dad is a tough job. Trying to juggle the roles of two parents each day can be exhausting, frustrating and overwhelming.

Getting organized is one way to minimize the amount of work and run a more streamlined, calmer household. Try some of the tips listed below and before you know it you will be less stressed, more focused and able to spend more quality time with your kids!

• Time your phone calls. How many times have you spent hours chatting on the phone, only to hang up and realize that you don't have time to do what you wanted to do? Set a timer by the phone. When it rings, politely tell the caller that you must hang up. You feel more in control and have more time to accomplish your goals.

• Clean out your kids' book bags once a week. Take school notices and put them in a folder. At that moment go through the folder and throw out anything that does not need to be answered. Take action on all the other letters and write those checks to the PTA and book club now before you forget!

• Set your kids' clothes out every night for school the nextday. If you have very young children you can save time bydressing them in their school clothes after the evening bathand letting them sleep in them. The clothes will be clean, although maybe a little wrinkled, and you can head out the doorthat much faster.

• Review your schedule every morning and evening. Makemodifications for things that may come up unexpectedly.

• Schedule a specific time to answer your email.

• Clean your house and do laundry every day, instead of once aweek. It is much easier to throw a load of laundry in whilewatching TV in the evening than to be overwhelmed with tons ofit on the weekend. Assign a cleaning task each day, such as:Monday, bathrooms, Tuesday, vacuum, Thursday, kitchen, etc. Bybreaking down the big tasks you will be less overwhelmed andyour house will be a lot cleaner!

Give those kids some chores! Even a young child can help foldlaundry and clear the dinner dishes from the table. Have yourfamily help out; after all they live there too!

• Be ruthless with your time! Try scheduling one hour a day forfocus time: your time to decide on what is important to you.

• And remember to reward yourself. It can be anything, big orsmall, that refreshes you and that you enjoy.

“ Effects Of Single Parenting”
Free toddlers activity & child discipline guide single parent

There is no denying the fact that single parenting is becomingmore common today than at any time in the past and this may haveto do with more time on the hands of parents, and their bettereconomic situations.

As people become financially moreindependent there is sure to be a corresponding loss ofdependence on other people. This trend has extended even intothe domain of parenting. However, the effects of singleparenting are evidently not as dark and foreboding as one wouldimagine as the child or children can adjust to their particularsituation without any serious and negative effects.

Nevertheless, studies do show a trend that the effects ofsingle parenting can cause children to become maladjusted, andare at greater risk of having social and psychologicalbehavioral problems. Even so, one must remember that the effectsof single parenting due to divorce must be separated from thoseeffects resulting from the divorce itself.

To lessen the illeffects of single parenting, parents need to behave normally andmaturely and thus minimize damage in the minds and hearts oftheir children. Some of the common effects of single parentingthat are generally noticed in children include being stressedabout finances, feeling isolated and uncared for, and alsoneeding greater amount of support emotionally. It is also notnecessary that these effects of single parenting are a directconsequence of divorce because they can also percolate down fromparent to child through the parent's behavior.

Probably the biggest scar that is left on the child of singleparents is not having a healthy and strong emotional bond withthe parent because there is one less parent around with whom tointeract with. Single parents may also be busy with theirworking life and thus with just one parent the effects of singleparenting will manifest them in reduced contact with parents, and consequently one less shoulder on which to cry on, or amissing helping hand in times of stress and disturbance.

With one parent around, there is not much security for thechild who in any case is most hungry for that very feeling withwhich to survive and grow strong. However, all is not dark andnegative for the child as there is also a silver lining to thedark clouds because one of the positive effects of singleparenting is that children can learn to become more independentand self sufficient with just one parent around them.

Necessityas they say is the mother of all invention. And, effects ofsingle parenting are not just confined to only the child, butramifications are felt in the parents as well. Thus, it isnecessary that single parents and the child learn to developstronger bonds and thus not feel the loneliness and despair ofmissing a vital cog in the family machine.
