Keeping a Toddlers Active Yet Tame
I just bet everyone who reads this title will be thinking, what a joke! There are some toddlers who are far livelier than others and their parents need a few extra tips on how to keep them tame. Now it’s that wonderful time of year you wait for all year long – vacation! Bet you can already smell the sea! AH HA! Wait a minute - what about Aidan or Jaime or whatever your darling toddler is called? Bet he or she is going to ruin your dream vacation!
Not necessarily you know, even though it’s the “terrible twos!” time. There are a few handy tips in this article to help you enjoy your holiday while avoiding the worst temper tantrums.
Most parents who have children between the ages of two and three know all there is to know about the temper tantrums these kids can throw. Take heart and keep reading.
Rule number one and that should all be capitalized – toddlers simply do not like to sit still. Actually they cannot stay still for over a minute – we’ve done the timing! While it’s tedious for you, it’s actually very healthy for your child. Think of all the growing the child does while he’s running about constantly. Better yet – think of all the weight you lose following him, and while on vacation too! WOW!
The healthiest thing for your child is to be active, so plan the vacation in such a way that the child becomes good and tired in a healthy sort of way. Tell yourself the “terrible twos” will end when your child turns three.
You can plan two types of play – structured activities and free play. For the structured play you can get a ball or pull toy if you are at the beach. Otherwise floor toys, indoor pull toys and push toys should do fine.
Structured play for your 12 to 24 month old toddlers can include activities such as dancing, playground games, even climbing the stairs or holding their hand and letting them jump.
Structured play for your 24 to 36 month old toddlers can include activities such as dancing, different kinds of building games such as blocks, playground games or floor car chases.
Free play can always include indoor and outdoor games where the child is supervised from a distance. According to the experts toddlers require 30 minutes structured activity and 60 minutes free play daily during this period.
Get it organized and watch your favourite toddler grow! And you are keeping them occupied and keeping temper tantrums away.
