Making Your Toddler a Happy One
The language gap between a parent and toddler is responsible for much of the temper tantrums and upsets. The toddler age group ranges from one year to three years. During this time children begin experiencing feelings that they cannot quite express. To a toddler, not being able to express how it feels is highly frustrating. Children only know how to scream when they cannot get something they want, so they resort to tantrums.
Staying calm in the midst of a raging tantrum is not easy. However, this is really the best way to handle the situation. The parent needs to talk to the child calmly to show understanding of the situation. For example, your child is irritable because it is sleepy. This situation should not be allowed to happen. Toddlers need routine for their meal and nap times to prevent them from experiencing feelings of tiredness and hunger.
When a toddler starts throwing a tantrum it is no laughing matter! In fact, it is enough to have the parent wanting to scream while lying on the floor and kicking.
One of the best ways to handle a tantrum is to demonstrate to the child that you understand what it is going through. While your child does not have the ability to communicate effectively with you, it does have the ability to understand for the most part what you are saying.
Toddlers feel better when they know that Mommy understands what they going through and trying to express.
There are some very good books available on taming toddler temper tantrums. They provide unique tips and techniques for communicating with the toddler and reducing the frequency of tantrums.
Every parent wants a child with a sweet disposition and sunny smile that lasts all through the day. Forget it! Your toddler is going to experience negative feelings that cause it to throw a tantrum to express the feeling.
In the role of parent, we need to make sure that we reduce the situations in which toddlers experience negative feelings. For example, if you do not have a routine for getting your toddler off to bed each night, doing it haphazardly at a different time every day, you are going to have one very irritable child.
Toddlers have their own limitations and taking a little child on a wild shopping spree, dragging it from store to store on the same day is definitely going to upset the child.
Establish routines for your toddler and you will have a happier child on your hands.
