Stop Children from Being Bullies
A bully is a person who picks and terrorizes smaller or weaker people. We are familiar with the bully behavior. It starts at an early age and might stay with us till adulthood.
You have to be careful of this trait as it can very harmful and dangerous to you and the people around you. This is a trait commonly practiced at an early age by children all over. Children unknowingly get into the habit of pushing the smaller children around. It helps build up their confidence and prowess. Children come in big and small sizes.
The bigger child realizes the capability of forcing the smaller children to follow their wishes by overpowering them physically. Adults notice this common behavior among children and advise them to stop fighting and get along with one another.
Hopefully, the child follows the adult and thus ends a potential bullying career. But the child may be stubborn and enjoy the power they exert over the smaller children. Here are some ways to help put a stop to bullies.
Teach the child at an early age the evil of bullying. Explain to them what it feels like to be bullied. Teach them the harm that harsh words or painful actions can do to a person. Try bullying them and ask them what were their reactions and feelings when you bullied them. Encourage them to be amiable with everyone regardless of physical differences.
Show them that being a bully is not the right attitude. Explain to them that they should not allow other people to be bullies. It is a bad behavior and should not be condoned. By allowing others to be bullies, they are signifying their approval and acceptance.
The child should recognize the cruelty and harshness of bullying, and not permit others to practice that evil behavior to others. If your child is being bullied, instruct the child to bring up the matter to adults and friends. Cite the situations and details of the incidents. Do not attempt to fight the bully physically because the bully will enjoy enforcing more power and harm over the weaker person.
Do not be afraid and intimated by the bully. Educators and parents can address the issues once they become aware of it. When the bully realizes they cannot exert their power over you, they will usually stop pestering you.
Institute anti-bullying campaigns and forums among the schools. Sometimes, the child does not realize they are bullying others or that they are being bullied. They might consider it acceptable for a stronger person to exert their will over the weaker person.
Encourage the bigger and stronger children to act as protectors over the weaker ones. Teach them to have compassion towards others. Instill in them a feeling of camaraderie and closeness. Show them that people will respect them and rely on their protective care.
