Hand made Christmas gifts which are inexpensive, relatively easy to make and sure to please.
PATCH QUILT This gift takes a few months to complete, but is well worth the effort. Start off by collecting as many articles of clothing as possible, from family, friends, neighbours, anyone who is willing to donate. Cut out squares of about 6" x 6". Sew the squares together, alternating between different colors, patterns and fibers. Total size needed should be measured against an existing bedspread. Using a plain white bedsheet the size of your patch quilt, sew three sides of the sheet to the edges of your quilt. The fourth side is kept open to insert a little weight and warmth to your quilt by putting a light layer of down or cushion stuffing between your quilt and the sheet. Once completed, sew the remaining edge of the sheet to your quilt, and voilà! If time permits, fringed edges can be sewn to three sides of the quilt, or even matching pillowcases. This gift will lend itself to any bedroom decor, but best of all, the cost is minimal for a hand made gift which will be greatly appreciated and enjoyed for many years to come. DECORATIVE CONTAINERS USING WAX "BEADS" Rather than buying costly glass jars filled with wax "beads" to offer as decorative accessories for someone, it's easy and inexpensive to make your own. Empty containers are as readily available as clear perfume or wine bottles. Champagne, wine or brandy glasses also look great. Recycle old candles and broken wax crayons by grating each piece using a hand held cheese grater to form colorful wax "beads." Layer the different colored beads in your container. Pressing down on certain areas more than others with a spoon will create amazing results. Using scented candles will add wonderful aromas as well. Finishing touches can include further decorating the container with a touch of ribbon, glitter or colored tissue paper. An easy, inexpensive hand made gift even your children can make. Sure to please! LASTING MEMORIES Though we can't ever go back in time, it's often nice to reminisce over fond memories. Why not serve some up to that special someone this year for Christmas? Write down your funniest or fondest memory involving the designated recipient. Include as many details as possible. Add photos, drawings, anything which will help make the readers feel as though they were also there with you. Type up your memory using specialty fonts on a computer, or splurge on a professional printer's services. The variety of color and quality regarding choice of paper is quite abundant, so be creative. Frame your memory any way you like. You can buy a frame at any craft supply shop, or make your own using wood mouldings decorated to taste with paint, glitter or lace. Ready to wrap, this hand made gift will truly have come from the heart, and will surely bring many a smile to all.
