Ways to Keep Your Kids Healthy – Part 1

Being a parent is never easy. It is a test of will and patience to care for another life aside from yours, ensuring their well being and their proper growth. One of the hardest thing to monitor is your child's nutrition.

From six months, when your infant is first introduced to solid food, keeping our children in the peak of health is among the foremost of our responsibilities. We know a proper well balanced diet is the way to go but sometimes it is just easier said than done.

Proper nutrition is important for all of our health, but more so to children as they need these nutrients to properly develop as they grow into adulthood. But in these days of cable TV, Internet surfing and fast food, it is hard to meet and maintain the optimal diet and exercise needed by children…Hard, but not impossible.

Shake it to the left, shake it to the right

Playing games like tag, leap frog and hide-and-seek is not only fun for your kids, but it helps them develop healthy hearts, strong muscles and bones. These very same activities help to ensure lowered risks of some chronic diseases later in life, aside from keeping them fit and feeling good about themselves.

Psychologically, playing games, especially with other kids in the neighborhood, park or public playground improves their social and moral development while at the same time reducing stress and anxiety. Also, making them interact with other kids give them the opportunity to make friends, learn about social norms and set behavioral boundaries for themselves.

While the weekend trip to the park or playground is fun for both you and the kids, it may not be enough physical activities for the kids.

Children need 60 minutes of moderate intensity activities per day. These activities likely involve walking, dancing, swimming, games and most sports. The good thing is, you don't have to cram everything in just an hour; you can space it all throughout the day.

Like you can walk with your kids to school in the morning for 15 minutes, and walk with them back when it's quitting time, and then play a game with them before dinner. This not only gives you and your children some needed exercise; you also get to spend quality time with them and bond at the same time. You can also encourage your child to participate in PE class and join in sports activities.
